The environmental management
system of Nokian Capacitors Ltd. was first certified according to the
ISO 14001:1996 standard in 2000.
The environmental management
system is based on environmental considerations as well as statutory or
other requirements and industry recommendations.
Besides production, the certified
environmental management system covers all the administrative functions
affecting the environment. Continuous personnel training, ranging from
practical recovery instructions to the industry's general environmental
impacts, is included in the system.
The employees of Nokian Capacitors
Ltd. have committed themselves to continuous development of the
environmental management system and to reworking procedures to meet the
challenges of sustainable development.
We recycle more than 60% of our
waste. Since 1990 we have continued to reduce the amount of landfill waste.
The current volume is just 1/20 of the waste that was sent to landfills ten years
ago.
All surplus metal, plastic and oil
is recovered and recycled or disposed of in an appropriate manner. We
are currently looking into the possibility of using water-soluble paints
in our production.
No hazardous waste
The life of a capacitor is about
20 years. It is disposed of with no strain on the environment: we
recycle the metal and plastic components and burn the remaining parts
for energy in an authorized waste incineration plant. |
