Nokian Capacitors has
received an order for two big deliveries to India from the national grid
company, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. Nokian Capacitors systems
are used to increase the capacity and improve reliability of
transmission lines. The turnkey order consist of a project and an
equipment delivery.
State-owned Power Grid
Corporation is responsible for HV transmission in whole India. The
selection of Nokian Capacitors to the supplier in this important Indian
state infrastructure projects is an acknowledgement to strong trust on
Nokian Capacitors power technology, quality and experience. The winning
of the tender was a result of an international tender competition.
Use of compensation in India
will increase, when individual state grids are connected together and at
the same time consumption of electricity is growing fast. Nokian
Capacitors started sales efforts in 2002 and this first project order,
which gives a good foundation of growth of business. The equipment and
project delivery is designed and manufactured in Nokian Capacitors

Nokian Capacitors Ltd. opened a new factory
in Tampere (30.11.2005) |
|
 |
Nokian Capacitors Ltd. has finalized the
factory investment for reactors, which are used in Transmission and
Distribution networks. The new factory is 4000 square meters with
high-tech automation production systems and testing spaces. Nokian
Capacitors intends to double its reactor production in the next few
years and estimates that the venture will create over 20 new jobs.
During 2000-2005 the company’s turnover more than doubled. At the same
time, the number of personnel has increased by 80 to 215 in total.
The company chose Tampere as the
factory’s base location for a complete, flexible, and global service.
The customer benefits, when Finnish know how in designing, production,
project operation and sales function effectively in close collaboration.
As a result, the company will achieve through the global network, high
quality products, competitive prices and on time deliveries to the
market. Over 90% of the new factory’s production is exported to markets
as far away as Australia, Brazil, Ukraine, USA and China. |

Break through into the USA market
(10.11.2005) |
|
 |
Nokian Capacitors Ltd. is delivering a
compensation equipment project to Niagara Mohawk company in New York,
USA. This project is worth about 10 million euros and is in partnership
with Power Engineers, our local partner. Nokian Capacitors’ compensation
equipment increases transmission line reliability and improves
transmission capacity and efficiency. Nokian Capacitors delivers
core-technology for the system, including reactors from the new factory,
which consists of about half of the entire project.
Nokian Capacitors was chosen a second
time within a short period to be a supplier for a project, which is
proof of the markets strong trust in the company. The efforts to get
into the USA market were started in 2002 and now we are seeing
successful results. Nokian Capacitors’ electric power technology, with
the company’s own modern control systems and strong local partner,
Nokian Capacitors gained a victory from the large multinational
corporations. |

MEDIUM VOLTAGE ENCLOSED CAPACITOR BANKS
(07.04.2004) |
|

 |
Enclosed capacitor banks are designed by
Nokian Capacitors for power factor correction, voltage support and
harmonic suppression in medium voltage distribution systems. They supply
continuous, group or central reactive power compensation of fluctuating
loads in three-phase networks up to 36 kV.
TYPES OF BANKS
Fixed,
fixed with a switching device and automatic.
Fixed capacitor banks are formed by
individual capacitor units with/without damping reactors or with
blocking reactors mounted in a common enclosure with no switching or
stepping capability. They provide a fixed quantity of reactive power at
all times. This method of correction is suitable for example for large
machines operating at steady loads.
Automatic capacitor banks are formed by
individual capacitor units with/without damping reactors or with
blocking reactors mounted in a common enclosure with switching
capability. They can improve the power factor by providing the required
amount of reactive power under varying load conditions. The capacitors
are switched on and off by a microprocessor based controller according
to the need for reactive power. The controller also provides network
data and alarm conditions.
BANKS ACCORDING THE CONFIGURATION
Depending on the capacitor connection
configuration, the banks are divided in two groups: one-phase capacitor
units connected in double-star unearthed system with unbalance
protection (power ratings up to 12000 kvar up to 36 kV) or three-phase
capacitor units connected in star (power ratings up to 4800 kvar up to
7.2 kV).
The banks are designed for indoor or outdoor
installation, and can be fitted with various options to meet virtually
all customer needs such as different ventilation systems, enclosure’s
protection degrees and interlocking systems.
The banks are supplied as sub-assembled
units, factory tested and ready for connection. |

MAXSINE – REACTIVE POWER AND HARMONICS COMPENSATION
(16.05.2002) |
|
 |
There is an increasing number of electrical
equipment with non-linear voltage-current characteristics connected to
network. Harmonic currents produced by them cause harmonic voltages in
network impedances, which add to the fundamental system voltage
resulting in voltage distortion. This voltage distortion is experienced
by all electrical equipment connected to the network leading to higher
thermal loading of motors, transformers, capacitors, switchgear and
cabling. Some of the electrical equipment develop more audible noise
when supplied with distorted voltage. Sensitive electronic protection,
control and ripple control systems are likely not to operate properly
when supplied with distorted voltage.
The most effective way to eliminate harmonics
is MaxSine, active filter. Nokian Capacitors’ MaxSine is based on
patented Direct Phase Current Control (DPCC) technology. It provides
your network with efficient and fast harmonics reduction and reactive
power compensation. |
